Penny Serenade is a 1941 film melodrama starring Irene Dunne, Cary Grant, Beulah Bondi and Edgar Buchanan.
The movie was written by Martha Cheavens and Morrie Ryskind, and was directed by George Stevens.
Cary Grant was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his work in this film.
The title refers to a song of the same name, which is one of several songs introduced into the film as part of Grant's reminiscences. The story is about a couple who adopt a child, but must struggle to make ends meet when the man loses his job. When the little girl dies suddenly, they are about to separate, and the songs that mark episodes in the action are the records from their collection. At the end they are offered the opportunity of adopting a little boy.
