Geography
Peconic is located at 41°1'50" North, 72°27'36" West (41.030469, -72.460009)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²). 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.82% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,081 people, 426 households, and 310 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 86.4/km² (223.8/mi²). There are 682 housing units at an average density of 54.5/km² (141.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 94.45% White, 0.93% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.41% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 3.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 426 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.7% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% are non-families. 22.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 2.98.
In the hamlet the population is spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 30.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
