The Order of British Columbia insignia
The Order of British Columbia is British Columbia's highest award for outstanding achievement. Established by statute in 1989 the award is appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia based on recommendations from an advisory council.
The advisory council includes:
- The Chief Justice of British Columbia - Chairperson
- The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
- The President, in turn, of British Columbia's Public Universities, for a two-year term
- The President of the Union of B.C. Municipalities
- The Deputy Minister responsible for the Order of British Columbia
- Two past recipients of the Order

- Henry Pybus Bell-Irving (1990)
- Frank Arthur Calder (2004)
- Raffi Cavoukian (2001)
- Iona Campagnolo (1998)

- Douglas Jung (1997)
- Trevor Linden (2003)
- Mavor Moore (1999)
- Ernest Alvia Smith (2002) - The last living Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross
