Orange Lake is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Orange County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 6,085.
The community of Orange Lake is in the western part of the Town of Newburgh, located on the east side of a lake called Orange Lake.
Geography
Orange Lake is located at 41°31'57" North, 74°5'47" West (41.532593, -74.096388)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.5 km² (6.0 mi²). 13.9 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is land and 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.67% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,085 people, 2,016 households, and 1,628 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 438.3/km² (1,134.2/mi²). There are 2,104 housing units at an average density of 151.6/km² (392.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 80.30% White, 12.56% African American, 0.07% Native American, 1.46% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.16% from other races, and 2.47% from two or more races. 12.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,016 households out of which 36.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.4% are married couples living together, 10.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.2% are non-families. 15.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.91 and the average family size is 3.24.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $58,321, and the median income for a family is $65,190. Males have a median income of $39,861 versus $30,729 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $22,351. 2.9% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.1% of those under the age of 18 and 8.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
