Optimax

Optimax is the UK brand name given to Shell Oil's super-premium petrol (gasoline). It has a much higher octane rating than standard petrol at around RON98. Normal premium unleaded in the UK is RON95, whilst in the USA, it is RON87. The higher the RON, the more the fuel resists premature ignition (see petrol for more detail). Optimax also contains detergents and other additives to clean the engine and smooth its operation.
