Ondo State

Ondo State, Nigeria was created on February 3, 1976 from the former Western region. Akure is the state capital. The state contains eighteen Local Government Areas, the major ones being Akoko, Akure, Okitipupa, Ondo, and Owo. The 1991 census recorded a total population of 2,255,700 residents, the majority of which live in urban centers.
The ethnic composition of Ondo State is largely from the Yoruba subgroups of the Akoko, Akure, Ikale, Ilaje, Ondo, and Owo.
Ondo State contains the largest number of public schools in Nigeria- over 880 public primary schools and 190 public secondary schools.
