Olympic Distance Triathlon
|
A triathlon is an athletic event made up of three contests. The usual triathlon is a combination of swimming, cycling and running.
There are a number of standard triathlon race distances, including the Olympic distance (also known as the Classic distance), which is comprised of a 1,500 metre swim, followed by a 40 km bike, followed by a 10 km run.
The official triathlon world cup is a series of olympic distance races organized and sanctioned each year by the International Triathlon Union, in 2004 it included thirteen events. Many other non-official triathlon races have adopted the olympic distance format.
Olympic distance triathlon first appeared as a medalling event in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
