Nyssa is a city located in Malheur County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,163. The city is located along the Snake River on the Idaho border, in the region of far eastern Oregon known as the "Western Treasure Valley". The primary industry in the region is the cultivation of russet potatoes, sugar beets, and onions. The city's economy relies on the surrounding agricultural area, in particular through the sugar beet processing plant of the Amalgated Sugar Company.

Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,163 people, 1,018 households, and 761 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,071.3/km² (2,772.6/mi²). There are 1,099 housing units at an average density of 372.2/km² (963.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 56.50% White, 0.41% African American, 0.79% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 38.22% from other races, and 2.97% from two or more races. 57.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,018 households out of which 43.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.11 and the average family size is 3.61.
In the city the population is spread out with 35.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.0 males.
