Nynäshamn Municipality is a Municipality in Stockholm County, in central Sweden with the town Nynäshamn (pop. 13,000) as seat.
To Norrtälje belongs several islands and nature areas. There are over 1,000 islands and islets in the municipality. Nynäshamn boasts sandy beaches, areas suitable for long walks, for riding horses and for bicycling, all popular activities. The municipality may have one of the most varying natures in its country, as it allows both activities related to the Stockholm archipelago, such as boat tours, aswell as boggy grounds, agricultural areas, urban areas and even forests with elks and deers.
Nynäshamn is also the place where the ferries to the island Gotland goes from. In the Stockholm area, that is perhaps what Nynäshamn is most known for. A lot of cruising boats on tours in the Baltic Sea also stay in the harbour, because they to large to go into Stockholm.
Its history is traced several thousands of years back. About 50 historical remains are considered notable enough to be marked on maps and attract visitors. They include both grave fields from the Iron Age, rune stones from the Viking Age as well as newer curiosites such as 18th century farms and cottages.
