North Topsail Beach is located at 34°28'37" North, 77°27'40" West (34.476925, -77.461091)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 27.4 km² (10.6 mi²). 16.6 km² (6.4 mi²) of it is land and 10.8 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 39.32% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 843 people, 451 households, and 242 families residing in the city. The population density is 50.7/km² (131.4/mi²). There are 2,085 housing units at an average density of 125.4/km² (324.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 92.17% White, 4.74% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 451 households out of which 9.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% are married couples living together, 4.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.3% are non-families. 37.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.87 and the average family size is 2.37.

In the city the population is spread out with 9.4% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 33.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 109.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 114.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $45,982, and the median income for a family is $53,125. Males have a median income of $36,522 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the city is $33,972. 8.6% of the population and 5.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 25.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
