No-show (professional wrestling)
|
A no-show is professional wrestling slang that refers to occasions when an employee fails to turn up to work or to perform.
Genuine no-shows are rare, since the employee is usually sacked afterwards. Occasionally, a pretend no-show is staged for the purposes of an storyline.
Examples of no-shows
- Sunny could not be bothered to perform, under the impression that she was irreplaceable (today she would be referred to as a Diva). She was then fired and replaced.
- Stone Cold Steve Austin became frustrated with his career and his injuries, and failed to appear not once, but twice. However, because he was so popular, he shortly renegotatied a return.
- Chavo Classic no-showed a SmackDown! house show; he was reportedly frustrated with the booking of his character, believing he should have been booked as a living legend instead of a comedy act. He was fired just before a SmackDown! taping two days later.
