Nicky Rackard (1922 - 1976), sportsman.
Nicky Rackard was born in Killane, County Wexford on April 28, 1922. His father Bob had planned for him to play cricket but his talent was for hurling. He was in his prime in the 1950's when playing for County Wexford and his club Rathnure. His brothers, Bobby and Billy, also played with their brother at an inter-county level. Rackard also played Gaelic football for his county.
He holds the record for the highest score in a game of hurling when in 1954 All-Ireland semi-final he scored 7 goals and 7 points against County Antrim. Nicky was also the highest scorer in the 1955 and 1956 hurling and gaelic football seasons. In hurling he scored a total of 91 points in 1955 and 155 points in 1956. He also won All-Ireland medals in both these years.
He was also a Veterinarian.
