Dusted (1989) | New Miserable Experience (1992) | Congratulations ...I'm Sorry (1996) |
New Miserable Experience is the breakthrough album by pop-rock band the Gin Blossoms, released on August 4, 1992 (see 1992 in music). The album received generally poor reviews upon its original release, in spite of its blockbuster status. Critics felt the Gin Blossoms sounded too similar to a large number of other popular rock bands. Defenders of the band point to their emotionally charged lyrics and catchy hooks as proof of their skill.
New Miserable Experience was released only just after the band fired Doug Hopkins, the Gin Blossoms' primary songwriter. Just weeks after the album's release, Hopkins committed suicide.
