National Vocational Qualification
|
A National Vocational Qualification, or NVQ, is a certificate of vocational education in the United Kingdom. NVQs are available to people of all ages, and have no entry qualifications.
In 1997 the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) was formed to administer the NVQ system, and the first NVQs were awarded in 1988.
There are five levels of NVQ, whose definitions (paraphrased) are as follows:
Level 1 | Mostly routine and predictable work |
Level 2 | Some individual responsibility |
Level 3 | Complex work, requiring guidance of others |
Level 4 | Technical or professional work |
Level 5 | Significant responsibility, personal accountability and allocation of resources |
