Naqshbandi
|
Naqshbandi (Naqshbandiyya) is an order (tarika) in Sufi Islam. It claims to have begun with Abu Bakr, whereas most Sufi Orders claim to have begun from Ali ibn Abu Talib. It started in Khorasan region of Iran but is also traditionally affiliated with the Ottoman Empire. The word Naqshbandi نقشبندی is Persian and means "related to the image-maker". Others consider it to mean "Pattern Maker" rather than "image maker" and interpret "Naqshbandi" to mean "Reformer of Patterns".
Shaykh Hisham Kabbani is the founder of the American Naqshbandi Sufi Order, which operate the naqshbandi.org website.
