The Republic of Macedonia was formerly a part of Yugoslavia and shares a common heritage in popular music with other ex-Yugoslav countries and regions. Rhythms from this region tend to be rhythmically very complex. Local dances are called "oro" [1] (http://www.soros.org.mk/konkurs/076/angver/MakOra.html); an often referenced dance is the Teškoto (.wav sound file (http://www.soros.org.mk/konkurs/076/makver/Teskoto.wav)) from the village of Galičnik. The gajda or gaida is a common instrument.
