Mr. America

Mr. America is a bodybuilding contest sanctioned by the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union). The first national contest by the AAU was held on July 4, 1939 and the winner was named "America's Best Built Man". In 1940 this was changed to what is now known as the Mr. America contest.
Similar events
Similar competitions were created later, such as the Mr. Universe competition in 1950, organized by National Amateur Bodybuilders Association (NABBA) in England and then the Mr. Olympia competition in 1965, staged by the International Federation of BodyBuilders.
