Mount Barker is a town in the Mount Lofty Ranges, 40 kilometres from Adelaide, South Australia at Template:Coor dm. Mount Barker was founded in 1834. Local government is provided by the District Council of Mount Barker, and the population of the area is approximately 25,000. It lies at the base of Mount Barker, from which it takes its name.
Mount Barker is in the federal Division of Mayo and mostly in the state electorate of Kavel—the southern and western edges are in Heysen. The postcode is 5251.
The town is rapidly expanding with the creation of many new residential sub-divisions, some of a much smaller size than the traditional country town allotments.
