A Mohammedan is an older term for the term Muslim, referring to the Muslim people. Earlier generations of westerners falsely believed that the people of Islam worshipped Muhammad, when actually Muslims worship only God (or Allah). Muhammad is regarded as the last prophet. "Mohammadan" was commonly used in western literature until around the mid-20th century.
