The Golden Age Mister Terrific (Terry Sloane)
The Golden Age's Mister Terrific was Terry Sloane, a rich man with a photographic memory. Sometimes nicknamed "The Man of 1000 Talents," he turned to crimefighting after excelling at everything else. He wore a red suit with a green tunic. A golden emblem on his tunic proclaimed "Fair Play." Mister Terrific was a reserve member of the Justice Society of America.
After a long crimefighting career, Sloane was killed by the Golden Age Flash whose body was under the control of Terrific's nemesis, the Spirit King.
The Golden Age Mister Terrific is said to be a favorite of author Michael Chabon who contributed a story about Sloane to the JSA mini-series "All-Stars" in 2003. According to Chabon's story, Sloane is the protector of Gateway City. He has a brother, Ned, a butler named Butler, and a doorman named Smitty.
It has been suggested that Terrific was the grandfather of the Modern Age criminal Roulette after a tryst with the Golden Age Roulette, but according to recent issues of the comic, Terrific's brother Ned was Roulette's grandfather.
The Modern Age Mister Terrific (Michael Holt)
In 1997, the mantle of Mister Terrific was passed on to Michael Holt, an equally talented man who, while contemplating suicide after the accidental death of his wife and unborn child, was met by the Spectre, who told him about Sloane.
Inspired by Sloane's life story he took the name Mister Terrific and later joined the current Justice Society of America, eventually serving as its chairman.
He initially wore ordinary clothes and a leather jacket with Sloane's "Fair Play" emblem on the back. He currently wears a T-shaped mask, a black and white costume with red trim, and a collarless jacket in the same colours (the black sections of tunic and jacket forming a "T") with "Fair Play" written on the sleeves and "Terrific" on the back.
The current Mister Terrific is aided by his "T-spheres", floating robotic spheres that project holographic images to confuse his opponents. His suit is also invisible to all forms of electronic detection.
