Middlesex is a town located in Yates County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,345. The name comes from a location in England.

History
The town was knows as "Augusta" until 1808.
Geography
The eastern side of the town is defined by Canandaigua Lake, and the north town line is the border of Ontario County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 88.2 km² (34.1 mi²). 79.9 km² (30.9 mi²) of it is land and 8.3 km² (3.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.42% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,345 people, 521 households, and 376 families residing in the town. The population density is 16.8/km² (43.6/mi²). There are 732 housing units at an average density of 9.2/km² (23.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.74% White, 0.37% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 521 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the town the population is spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 29.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.8 males.
