Metro Bellas Artes is a station on the Mexico City Metro. It is a transfer station, serving both Lines 2 and 8. The Line 2 platforms were among the first to be inaugurated, on 14 September 1970, with the Line 8 transfer coming on line on 20 July 1994.
It is located on the corner of Avenida Juárez and Avenida Lázaro Cárdenas, on the eastern end of the Alameda Central. As its name – and its station logo – indicates, it serves the Palacio de Bellas Artes concert hall.
The station is of particular interest because of the reproduction pre-Hispanic pieces displayed on the Line 2 platforms. Also, in gratitude for the gift of a Huichol mural presented to the Paris Métro in 1997 (and on display at that metro system's Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre station), on 14 November 1998 President Jacques Chirac inaugurated one of the Paris Métro's treasured Hector Guimard art nouveau entrances at the side entrance of Metro Bellas Artes, in the shadow of the Palacio. Similarly, the Line 8 platforms are decorated with colourful murals, with Mexican and French motifs.
