|
The Mellish Crater is located in the southern hemisphere of Mars at coordinates 72.9S, 24.0W. It was named after John E. Mellish, an American amateur astronomer from St. Charles, Illinois. The crater was named after Mellish in 1994 with the help of Steven Dick at the U.S. Naval Observatory.
Mellish's history can be obtained by e-mailing Michael Anderer, who also helped lobby for the crater to be named after Mellish, at mar038@sbcglobal.net.
