Mega Man IV (Rockman 4 in Japan) is a video game from the Mega Man Classic series. The game was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America and Europe, and for the Famicom in Japan.
This game is a continuation of the series, serving as a sequel to Mega Man III. In this game, Dr. Cossack is the newest threat to the world as he invents eight robots and sends them after Mega Man. It is later revealed that Dr. Wily kidnapped Dr. Cossack's daughter Kalinka and held her for ransom. When Proto Man rescues her, Dr. Cossack betrays Dr. Wily and joins Mega Man.
In this game, Mega Man is able to fire more powerful shots. When the player holds the button to fire the Mega Buster, Mega Man starts to glow. When the player releases the button, Mega Man fires a shot that is more powerful than his non-charged shot.
Unlike Mega Man II and III, the player can revisit previously completed Robot Master stages. The player starts with three lives whenever he or she starts or resumes a game. They can earn a maximum of ten lives.
