Mayo is a census-designated place located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,153.
Geography
Mayo is located at 38°53'36" North, 76°30'16" West (38.893264, -76.504371)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.1 km² (4.7 mi²). 6.6 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 45.94% water.
The area is also commonly referred to as Edgewater.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,153 people, 1,195 households, and 862 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 479.3/km² (1,243.8/mi²). There are 1,303 housing units at an average density of 198.1/km² (514.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.32% White, 1.27% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 1.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,195 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.6% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% are non-families. 20.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.06.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $70,909, and the median income for a family is $81,634. Males have a median income of $47,500 versus $36,450 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $30,552. 2.8% of the population and 1.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.1% of those under the age of 18 and 3.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
