Born 1978, Matthew Dean followed early loves of music and archaeology to the University of Chicago, where he gained notice as a vocalist, co-founding Golosa Russian Folk Choir while serving as bass section leader for the University of Chicago Motet Choir and singing with Rockefeller Memorial Chapel Choir, Harmony 8 a cappella, and the professional Schola Antiqua chant ensemble of Chicago. Working with Karl Fogel, renowned open-source author and son of Henry Fogel, Chicago Symphony Orchestra president, Dean established a series of salon recitals, and gained recognition for freely-distributed recordings of song cycles, including works set to texts by Pietro Burati and J.R.R. Tolkien. Matthew Dean continues to perform and collaborate with his wife, educator Katherine Steffes Dean, his brother Brian Dean (a Hal Leonard music editor), and his cousin Michael Rich, a Chicago-area multi-instrumentalist.
Having lived in Spain and traveled extensively in Europe, Dean is also a published destination writer and is founding European Manager for MoonRings, Inc., a luxury travel company.
