Established in 1969 by Father Donald Rowe, SJ, a Jesuit priest, the collection began with a single painting called The Madonna and Child by Giovanni Bellini. Over the course of several generations, the Martin D'Arcy Museum of Art grew. The art gallery and museum is named after British humanist and Jesuit theologian Father Martin D'Arcy, SJ.
