Highly regarded as the National Horse, there are over 350,000 registered Mangalarga Marchador horses in Brazil and a number found in several countries outside its Brazilian homeland. As an Iberian breed, descending from the Royal Alter Andaluz stallions of Portugal and barb mares, they have carriage, beauty and intelligence, a warm personality and are easily trained for almost any discipline. The Marchador horses are known for having a smooth stable walk, canter and gallop as well as a natural diagonal (batida) or lateral (picada) four beat gait with a brief moment of triple hoof support. Their endurance, versatility out on the range, trail and pleasure riding as well as the ability to be trained in dressage or jump, makes the batida Mangalarga Marchador a wonderful sport horse that can be inspected and registered as a warmblood.

While there are less than fifty foundation Mangalarga Marchador horses in the United States, they are catching the attention of the horse world. You may have seen them on Horse Talk TV, marching in the New Year’s 2002 Pasadena Rose Parade, at Fiesta of the Spanish Horse, Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, Equine Affaire in Pomona, Southern National Exposition in Perry, Georgia or Equitana in Lexington, Kentucky. Since their introduction to the U.S., the United States has approved and granted a trademark to the American Mangalarga Marchador Horse Association for the Mangalarga Marchador brand, logos and name just as other fine products. This trademark is protected under U.S. Customs laws and provides that only authorized registered Mangalarga Marchador horses can be imported.

Rancho Linda Marchadores, located in San Diego California, is one of the primary importers of Mangalarga Marchador horses along with Royal Alter Marchadores, located in Ocala Florida. “I feel that it’s a privilege to be standing four fabulous foundation stallions out of the few, found in the United States” says owner Linda Holst. “As stallions, they are amazingly easy to handle and are impressively well behaved, which is a quality found in the breed. They keep easily in pipe corrals in a boarding environment and are a joy to have around.”

Batuque do Regal: 7-year-old, 15.1 hd., highly intelligent and beautiful golden dappled buckskin stallion, with a sensitive, sweet and willing disposition. He has an exhilarating picada (lateral) gait that “planes” and has been clocked up to 22 mph. Batuque is noted for his appearances with the legendary John Lyons and the famous Linda Tellington-Jones. A proven sire of color, conformation, intelligence and gait, makes Batuque a perfect choice for any breeding program.

Jallaio da Bao Fe do Regal: 4-year-old, 16.1 hd., gorgeous 14K gold dun stallion with all black points. Jallaio is a full brother to Brazil's Champion of Champions, with both parents among the top 10 sires and dam list for the last 10 consecutive years. This stallion has the Batida (diagonal) gait and will be making his debut in the dressage circle later this year. Color, size and gait make him a perfect sport horse choice.

Jordao de Passo Fino do Regal: 5-year-old, 15.1hd., is a striking red bay roan stallion and a color uncommon to the Iberian breeds. Holding an amazing 32 Championships to his credit, this fabulous batida (diagonal gaited) stallion is not only a champion in the show ring, but in the breeding ring as well.

Orixa do Regal: 5-year-old, 15 hd., dappled gray batida (diagonal gaited) stallion demonstrates a trot in addition to his canter. Currently training in dressage, Orixa (Oh-da-sha) is easy to ride and shows the versatility of this breed.
