Maelor Saesneg (Welsh, "English-speaking Maelor"), sometimes called "Flintshire Detached", is an area of Wales along the eastern border which is an exclave of the traditional county of Flintshire. Its administrative centre was in Overton. Since 1974 the traditional county has not been reflected in the structure of local government (see the article on Counties of Wales); the area is currently administered by the borough of Wrexham.
To the west, across the River Dee, lies another area known as Maelor Gymraeg, meaning "Welsh-speaking Maelor". This area is part of the traditional county of Denbighshire.
The names and separate governance of the two parts of Maelor goes back to at least 1202.
