MIRC game

- The title of this article is incorrect because of technical limitations. The correct title is mIRC game.
A mIRC game is a computer game coded in the mIRC scripting language. The games are usually either text-based or graphical; if graphical, they are normally shown in a "Picture Window", a special kind of window that can be created for graphical uses. These mIRC games tend to be very simple, but there have been attempts of making complex multiplayer games using mIRC. Even if mIRC isn't the best platform for making games (mostly due to speed limits), they've been gaining popularity and complexity in the last years.

Brief history
mIRC games started to come up since the inception of mIRC's scripting language. More advanced picture-based games appeared as soon as mIRC had enough resources for their creation. This became evident after the Picture Window support, when several small games were made, usually resembling old arcade games like the ones on the Atari 2600. Later, with the support of bitmap pictures, the graphics were greatly improved.
Notable mIRC Games
Most games are text-based or board-like, but platform games, action games, role-playing games and other genres were also made, or had an attempt to make a game of. The games also are, usually, just a remake or a adapted version of a popular game, instead of having an original concept.
Tanks
Probably the most popular game is ^Andy's "Tanks", a simple point and shoot multiplayer game, a remake of Scorched Earth, where the objective is to aim (adjusting the angle and speed of the shot) to hit the oponnents in a sloppy field.
Mario Beta Engine

The Brazilian scripter DukeNukem created in 2001 a collision engine for mIRC, being the fastest currently known. It first came up on a Mario Bros. game, a beta test of the engine. This collision method gained popularity in the passing months, allowing several new and more complex games to be made. The expansion of such engine came out in 2003 on another beta test, this time for a ninja game. Entitle "The Ninja Engine", it supports several new kinds of collisions (like water), multiple layers and even animated backgrounds. DukeNukem never finished what was called "The Ninja Game" and then later said a full documentation of this engine would come up.
Dragon Ball Z
Epsilon, from Belgium, recently released the first complete fighting game for mIRC. The Dragon Ball Z fighting game includes a full multiplayer support.
Trivia
Countless trivia scripts exist for mIRC.
Word games
There are many word games available in mIRC script, such as Ghost[1] (http://andre.facadecomputer.com/ghost) or anagram-based amusements.
Criticism
Some scripters criticize mIRC games. Their allegations are based on the fact that:
- mIRC games are usually too simple and present simple graphics
- They don't have enough interactivity
- mIRC was not designed as a game platform
- mIRC has too many speed limitations
