History
The principality of Seborga had its own currency, first struck in December 1666. In accordance with this law, which has never been repealed, Prince Giorgio I issued new coins made of different metals, such as silver.
Validity
They are valid everywhere in Seborga where all local shops accept them, just like all other currencies like the euro, the pound, the dollar etc. The luigino is still the official currency in Seborga.
Parity
The luigino's value is pegged at US$ 6.00, which makes it the world's highest valued currency unit if it is considered to be an official currency.
How to obtain
You can get luiginos at the palace, in the tourism office and in some authorized shops, such as Ruppe MiniMarket (tobacco) or Fine Food Trade Liliana Viale. You can obtain them likewise by mail order or internet. The coins are sent to your home with all necessary safety precautions.
