Template:GBdot Loughton is a town in Essex, England in the London commuter belt. It is inside the M25, has a London Underground station and a London (020) area code however it is outside the Greater London border.
It has a population of about 30,000 and is administered by Epping Forest district council and Loughton Town Council. Loughton covers about 3,500 acres (14 kmē), of which over 1,300 acres (5 kmē) are open forest land. The town is principally residential, but is also home to the Bank of England's printing works, where all English banknotes are printed.
