Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine

The Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine (also known by many similar names) is reportedly a gold mine hidden in the Superstition Mountains, near Apache Junction, Arizona, east of Phoenix, in the United States.
Some researchers believe the mine is real, and many people have searched for the location. Others have argued the mine has little or no basis in fact and is a legend.
Most accounts trace tales of the mine's origin to Jacob Walz, (also known by "Waltz" and other variant spellings) who came to the United States from Germany about 1845 and become a naturalized citizen in 1861.

Walz reportedly found a rich mine, and told its location when he was close to death.
Earlier, gold had also been discovered in the mountain by the Apache Indians, who have a legend about a Thunder God.
Many people have died seeking the gold, including those in the Peralta massacre.
Some accounts report the mine is cursed, or protected by persons who wish to keep its location secret.
One recent theory suggests that the mine is really a secret treasure cache belonging to the Knights of the Golden Circle, a Confederate secret society that was active during the American Civil War
