Lord Jim is a novel written by Joseph Conrad in 1900. It is narrated by Marlow—a recurring character in Conrad's works (most notably narrating Heart of Darkness)—who is sympathetic to the novel's protagonist, Lord Jim.
Lord Jim is widely considered a post-colonial novel because it deals with Africa and Asia and looks at them through an acultural point of view. In the novel, Jim must come to terms with an incident where he demonstrated a stunning lack of courage.
Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group were very much affected by this work, Conrad's first major novel.
