Long Lake
|
In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional world of Middle-earth, the Long Lake is a lake situated at the confluence of the Forest River and the northern reaches of the Celduin south of the Lonely Mountain.
The town of Esgaroth was built entirely upon the lake itself, which thus fomed a natural moat.
Long Lake and its French language equivalent, "Lac Long", is also the most commonly used name for a geographical feature in Canada. There are 203 Long Lakes and 164 occurrences of Lac Long. Source: Canadian Geographical Names, Natural Resources Canada (http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/)
