The word long has several meanings:
- In computing, long is often used as a short-hand description for the long integer datatype, particularly when used to declare a variable of this type (for example in the C programming language).
- In finance, to be long regarding a security, such as a stock, means to own it. Buying first may bring with it an obligation to sell in the future. Contrast with short selling and hedging.
