- In geography, location is a position or point in physical space expressed relative to the position of another point or thing. A real location can often be designated by Cartesian coordinates. On the Earth, the geographic coordinate system can be used to specify the position of any location.
- In film, a filming location is a place where (part of) a film is shot. In contradistinction to a film studio or movie set a filming location is a real place (eg an actual cafe) rather than a set created by production designers.
- In colloquial terms, the personal location of an individual is often expressed as "here", in which case the location may be a general reference to a vicinity or place where the individual can be found.
- AVL is Automatic Vehicle Location.
- In South Africa the euphemistic vernacular term location was often used to describe an urban area inhabited by non-whites. The term was later replaced by "township".
