List of Call of Duty mods
|
Call of Duty has only a few modifications out as of now, being that the game is relatively new and most people are satisfied with the standard multiplayer gaming that comes with the game.
Besides the larger mods, such as Revolt and Heat of Battle, which will be mentioned later, there are small additions to the game as well. This include such things as:
- Additional War Sounds (Sounds from Saving Private Ryan, per say)
- Additional War Effects (Explosions, gore)
- New skins and maps
Heat of Battle is a total conversion modification for Call of Duty. It is perhaps one of the most popular mods for CoD as of right now. But that's not saying much, because there are only two total conversion modifications currently available. Heat of Battle's main goal is to make the game more challenging by upping the realism of the game. This is achieved by measures like:
- Increasing the damage ratio, so one-shot kills are possible on areas of the body other than the head.
- Allowing you to carry only two grenades at a time.
- Allowing you to carry only one rifle or machine-gun at a time, and one handgun, rather than the traditional two rifle and one handgun limit.
- The damage radius of grenades is increased, so running away from a grenade is basically useless.
- Sniper rifles are more shaky when standing and crouching.
- Guns have more realistic sounds, and you carry an appropriate number of rounds with you. It's modelled after how many the regular infantry soldiers of World War 2 carried.
Revolt is a modification based on modern day combat. It's one of the main two modifications for Call of Duty as of this writing. This modification does not strive for realism in terms of difficulty, but it does strive for realism in costume and weaponry. You are split into two factions: Aggression (Allied), and Resistance (Axis). (Though it may be the other way around, depending on who's playing it.) The Aggression gets to use weapons like the M16, M4, M14, and the M9. The Resistance uses guns like the AK47, AKS-74U, G3A3, and the Tariq. This resembles what the Iraq War is like.
