Leona Czwartkowski (born May 14, 1949) is a Canadian author, poet, and eMedia artist. She was born in South River, Ontario, Canada. In 1969 she graduated from North Bay Teacher's College (now part of Nipissing University), was hired by The Sudbury Board of Education (renamed The Rainbow District School Board), and moved to Sudbury, Ontario where she met and later married her husband, the artist, Robert L.J. Zenik.
In her work, a fusion or juxtaposition of various themes, subjects, and life events has been used for the purpose of arousing emotions and evoking response. She considers her literary contribution (artistic period called Reflections - Writing 1967 through 2000) to the Sudbury community as "Representational Expressionism." Representational Art is art with an immediately recognizable subject, depicted in ways that seek to resemble a figure, landscape or object. Expressionism is artistic style which uses inner experience rather than solely realistic portrayal, seeking to depict not objective reality but the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse in the artist.
Published Works
Leona's poetry has appeared in various literary collections (Illusion, The Northern Poet, The Honey Creek Anthology of Contemporary Verse) and she has co-authored a children's book (All Aboard The School Bus) with four other educators from The Sudbury Board of Education. Her work has also appeared in eMedia Publications (Home Page, Streaming Audio/Video Poetry) and in C.D. format.
