Lee Chang-dong

Lee Chang-dong (born April 1, 1954) is a South Korean film director with a diversified career. After teaching Korean in high school, he established himself as a renowned novelist. To the surprise of many, he later turned to movie making, but it took no more than three movies to make him acknowledged in the field of motion pictures. All of his films have received overwhelming critical acclaim, with his latest, Oasis, winning the Director's Award at the Venice Film Festival. He served as the minister of Culture and Tourism in the South Korean Government from 2003 to 2004.
