Lansdowne House
|
Lansdowne House is a house in Berkeley Square, London. It was designed by Robert Adam, and since 1935 has been the home of the Lansdowne Club.
Famous former owners or residents of Lansdowne House include:
- John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, UK Prime Minister (1762-63)
- William Petty, 2nd Earl of Shelburne, UK Prime Minister (1782-83)
- William Pitt the Younger, UK Prime Minister (1783-1801, 1804-1806)
- Harry Gordon Selfridge, founder of the Selfridges department store
Street widening in the 1930s resulted in the removal of Adam's Drawing Room (now installed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art) and Dining Room (now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art).
