Lake Koshkonong is a census-designated place located in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,219.

Lake Koshkonong is located at 42°51'38" North, 88°56'25" West (42.860475, -88.940344)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 77.4 km² (29.9 mi²). 37.1 km² (14.3 mi²) of it is land and 40.3 km² (15.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 52.11% water.

What is a CDP? How can an Open Body of Water have a population? How can a "Lake" with no islands have 14.3 square miles of land? Lake Koshkonong is historically a marsh. The lake was created by the Indianford Dam. The average depth of Lake Koshkonong is six feet. Lake Koshkonong is 10,500 acres which makes the it the second largest body of open water in the state of Wisconsin. Lake Winnebago is the largest body of open water in the state, and a true lake.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,219 people, 492 households, and 338 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 32.9/km² (85.2/mi²). There are 809 housing units at an average density of 21.8/km² (56.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.36% White, 0.00% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 1.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 492 households out of which 25.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% are married couples living together, 4.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 22.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 32.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 108.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $54,412, and the median income for a family is $60,761. Males have a median income of $36,181 versus $25,337 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $23,801. 5.1% of the population and 2.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.7% of those under the age of 18 and 2.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
