Lake Elsinore is a city located in Riverside County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 28,928.

Geography
Lake Elsinore is located at 33°40'53" North, 117°20'43" West (33.681381, -117.345328)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 100.4 km² (38.8 mi²). 87.5 km² (33.8 mi²) of it is land and 12.9 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 12.82% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 28,928 people, 8,817 households, and 6,877 families residing in the city. The population density is 330.4/km² (855.7/mi²). There are 9,505 housing units at an average density of 108.6/km² (281.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 65.61% White, 5.19% African American, 1.29% Native American, 2.05% Asian, 0.30% Pacific Islander, 20.33% from other races, and 5.23% from two or more races. 38.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,817 households out of which 49.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 13.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.0% are non-families. 16.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.27 and the average family size is 3.66.
In the city the population is spread out with 36.0% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 16.0% from 45 to 64, and 6.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $41,884, and the median income for a family is $47,563. Males have a median income of $41,692 versus $26,555 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,413. 17.0% of the population and 14.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.2% of those under the age of 18 and 12.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
History
Lake Elsinore was incorporated as a city in 1888 but was inhabited well before then. The lake is the only natural lake in Southern California. It provided a spot for Spanish ranchers and American trappers to replenish their supplies. It was named Elsinore because of Shakespeare's "Hamlet". (In Progress).
