Lake Compounce is an amusement park located near Bristol, Connecticut. It is the oldest amusement park in North America, having operated continuously since 1846. The park covers 325 acres (1.3 km²) of land.
Lake Compounce is the home of Boulder Dash, which received the Golden Ticket Award for the #1 rated Wooden Roller Coaster by Amusement Today. Boulder Dash also was voted #1 Wooden Roller Coaster in the World by National Amusement Park Historical Association. The other wooden roller coaster at "The Lake" is the Wildcat, which was built in 1927. Lake Compounce is also the home of one of the oldest carousels in America. "The Lake" also has a genuine open-air trolley built in the same year as the carousel, 1911. The newest addition to Lake Compounce is the 185 ft. (56.4 m) drop tower, Downtime. Other rides include the Ghost Hunt, Zoomerang, and Skyride. There are many other rides in the park that the entire family will enjoy, including Garfield's Circus World for the little ones. During October the park transforms itself into a frightening Halloween experience. The park is decorated, and the rides are more intense in the pitch black. The main fall attracton is the Haunted Graveyard, a 45-minute walkthrough of catacombs, graveyard, cornfield, and many other houses with more being added every year. The Haunted Graveyard started in 1991 and has grown since. Portions of the money from the Haunted Graveyard is donated towards Juvenile Diabetes research.
