La Pointe-de-l'Île, known as Mercier from 1987 to 1997, is the name of a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada. Its population is 98,878. (2001)
Geography
The district includes the former City of Montreal East, the neighbourhood of Pointe-aux-Trembles, the eastern part of the neighbourhood of Longe-Pointe, and the southern part of the neighbourhood of Tetreauville in the City of Montreal.
History
The electoral district of Mercier was created in 1933 from Maisonneuve and Laval—Two Mountains. The name was changed to La Pointe-de-l'Île in 2004.
