LMule

LMule was an early attempt to bring an eMule-like client to Linux, starting in January 2003. Alternative applications were at the time command line applications whilst LMule was very similar to eMule in look and feel. As sometimes happens with open source projects, the developers fell out with one another, spawning the fork xMule which subsequently forked to produce aMule, again with some bitterness between the developers. As of January 2005, the LMule is defunct, whilst the xMule and aMule projects continue in active development. xMule was largely started because the maintainer of LMule did not want to pursue other operating systems (particularly FreeBSD). xMule thus was formed by the sole remaining active xMule developer Un-Thesis and Madcat, meaning "X11 Mule", in early March 2003; at that time the maintainer of LMule ceased all development.
