As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 5,314 people, 1,491 households, and 1,209 families residing in the city. The population density is 347.2/km² (899.0/mi²). There are 1,560 housing units at an average density of 101.9/km² (263.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 63.29% White, 8.30% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 23.45% from other races, and 3.88% from two or more races. 52.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,491 households out of which 50.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.5% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% are non-families. 13.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.22 and the average family size is 3.58.
