Koichi Sugiyama

Koichi Sugiyama (すぎやまこういち Sugiyama Kō'ichi; born April 11, 1931) is a Japanese music composer.

Koichi Sugiyama was born in Tokyo, Japan. He is best known composing music for the Dragon Quest video games series and several Japanese TV shows such as Space Runaway Ideon, Cyborg 009, and Gatchaman. He graduated from University of Tokyo and started creating music since 1958. He was the first ever video game music composer who recorded his music with a live orchestra, for the Dragon Quest series in 1986. Koichi Sugiyama also conducted the first ever video game music concert of the world, in 1987. Additionally he conducted the Orchestral Game Concerts of 1991 to 1995.
