Born in Navsari in Gujarat, Ketan Mehta was educated in New Delhi and graduated in film direction from The Film Institute of India and has six feature films, seven documentaries and a television serial to his credit. With his explicit direction of comedy and satire, silvan romance, violence and rebellion, Ketan Mehta has won himself the reputation of being "the most perceptive and talented representative of the rising generation of film makers."
Ketan Mehta's very first film BHAVANI BHAVAI won him instant acclaim. His movies have been selected for various international film festivals including Nantes (France), Moscow Film Festival etc, where his movies have won numerous awards over the years - Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Jury, Best Film; name the award and he has won them all ! MIRCH MASALA was one of Ketan Mehta's triumphant efforts which won him the Best Film Award at Hawaii. It was released in 52 centres in the U.S.A. ! Ketan Mehta has also had the honour of serving as a member of the Jury in various national and international film festivals. At present he is working on two films, both set in contemporary India. One is an Indian romance and the other a murder thriller.He did an autobiographical film Sardar, on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.Another film is Maya Memsaab
