Kendra

Kendra is a fictional character played by Bianca Lawson in the U.S. television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Kendra appeared in the second season of Buffy. She was a Slayer who was called when Buffy drowned at the end of season 1. (Buffy was immediately revived by Xander.) She came to Sunnydale to help Buffy fight off assassins sent by Spike to kill her. She returned at the end of the second season to help again, when the world was threatened by Angel and Drusilla's plan to end the world. Kendra was killed by Drusilla while trying to save other members of the Scooby Gang.
Kendra was never given a last name onscreen but Joss Whedon gave her one for books, comics and more. Kendra's last name is Young.
Several issues were raised by Kendra's appearance:
- Her appearance demonstrated that two Slayers can be active at the same time.
- Her background (she was sent to her Watcher as a child for training) indicated that the Watchers Council had some way of identifying potential Slayers at least in some cases.
- Her social isolation and dedication to order and technique in pursuing her calling served to highlight the ways in which Buffy's independence, emotions and friendships enhanced her performance as a Slayer.
- The fact that neither Buffy nor Giles were aware of Kendra and her Watcher, and that Kendra did not know that Buffy was also a Slayer indicates (as does Watcher Gwendolyn Post's unauthorized visit to Sunnydale in an attempt to become Faith's Watcher) that the Watchers' Council either does not know what some of its agents do, or that they sometimes do not share such intelligence with their field operatives.
